Recently, the Lord prompted me to update my resume and curriculum vitae. This exercise of recalling and writing re-ignited my passion to bring to fruition all the ideas that God has inspired me to accomplish.
I also realized that reflecting on my past accomplishments helped to re-ignite my purpose. It was as if I heard the Lord speak into my spirit, “Son, look at your impact. You were called for this!”
Immediately, I remembered how Peter in his second Epistle to the Church notes the following:
“This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory” (2 Peter 3:1, New Living Translation)
The immediate context is that Peter is encouraging the church about what he has already conveyed in his first letter. But the nugget I want to take from this is that there is something powerful about writing down and reflecting on what God has done in our lives. This twin action can re-ignite purpose by helping us to:
Celebrate our accomplishments and how God used us in the past.
Re-calibrate our direction on what we need to be doing in the present.
Generate a fresh perspective on what we need to accomplish in the future.
I encourage you to carve out the time to write and reflect on your resume. You will see that the good work that God has begun in you, God will bring to fruition!
Here are some additional tips for writing and reflecting in a way that re-ignites purpose:
- Start by praying and asking God to help you to see your life and accomplishments from His perspective.
- Be honest and vulnerable with yourself as you write down your thoughts and feelings.
- Don’t be afraid to celebrate your successes, big and small.
- Take the time to identify the lessons you have learned and the ways that God has grown you through your experiences.
- Ask God to show you what He wants you to do next in your life.
- Share your reflections with a trusted friend or mentor, who can help you to discern God’s leading and develop a plan to move forward.
Remember, you are called for a purpose. Writing and reflecting are powerful tools to help you re-ignite that purpose and fulfill your destiny in Christ.
