I often wonder why it took me 14 years to finally develop clarity around my purpose. Not only that, but why did I struggle to execute in a consistent way in the areas of my purpose that I was clear on? The reasons are myriad for sure, but I have boiled them down to two main things 1.) lack of a framework or system to focus my execution and measure my results, and 2.) not having the discipline to remain consistent in my execution.  Discovering your purpose is not enough. Execution is needed. Making an impact requires purposeful execution.

Purpose Needs a Robust Framework & System to be Expressed

Pastor Sunday in this book, System Building: The Key to Resolving Very Problem.  Notes this about the importance of systems in our lives:

“But do you understand, dear friends, that great people, whom the whole world admires could become great only because they were able to build and use systems in different spheres of life? It is this truth that allowed them to find ways out many difficult situations, to solve diverse tasks, to benefit society, and to become successful and wealthy.”  [1]

I have come to value and leverage great systems that help me make a purposeful impact. Since establishing the King’s Collective Network, I have become even more passionate about using systems and equipping people to use various systems that will help them identify and fulfill their purpose.  One system I created is the Purpose-Funnel.  It is a framework and system that will help you think clearly about the key steps needed to get clear on your purpose and to follow up with strategic execution.

Purposeful Execution requires Systemic Consistency

I consistently post a new blog every week. I can do this because I use a blogging framework and system, coupled with the discipline of following through.  You cannot brute force your way to impact and influence. You must channel your impact through a system that you can check, tweak, and overhaul if needed.

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest” (NIV).

You cannot be random when it comes to living out your purpose. Having various systems to achieve successful outcomes is necessary. If you are clear on your purpose and you are consistently not getting the results you are looking for, then it is time to check for system failure. If it is, then don’t be afraid to stop, evaluate, overhaul, and execute. Your greatness in God requires this level of effort. Get after it!

What areas do you feel like you need to revisit? Do you think it is a systems issue or lack of discipline in execution or both?
