As a follower of Christ, this time of year is especially important to me. The reflection, the celebration, and the ongoing relevance of the death, burial, resurrection, and reign of Jesus have so many implications on purpose. But let me zone in on the resurrection.
Jesus is humanity re-imaged. God become human and modeled as the Second Adam and filled the gap that the First Adam failed to fulfill. What the First Adam lost through rebellion and disobedience as illustrated in the Garden of Eden, Christ the Last Adam, reclaimed and restored to us when we came into the Kingdom through the New Covenant. As a result of Christ’s resurrection, Psalm 8 is now our reality. But how so?
The Resurrection of Purpose
Your purpose has been restored in that you are no ordinary person. You have been made in the image and likeness of God. This connotes sonship and rulership (Genesis 1: 26-27). Psalm 8: 4-5 states,
“What is man that You think of him, and a son of man that You are concerned about him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!” (NASB).
The Resurrection of Potential
Because of Christ’s resurrection, you now can live out your potential. You can be strong in the Lord and the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10). You can do everything related to fulfilling your God-inspired purpose (Philippians 4:13). God’s ability in you will cause your potential to come alive.
The Resurrection of Passion
God has created you to do good works. Ephesians 2:10 states,
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (NASB). There is a mountain that God has called you to impact. There is a problem in the world that God has earmarked you to solve.
What are you passionate about? What gets your stirred up? Rise up with passion and impact!
The Resurrection of Power
You don’t only have a passion to make an impact; you also are empowered because of the resurrection for impact. Romans 8: 11 states,
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (NASB).
The work of the Holy Spirit is multifaceted. But for the Holy Spirit’s work to become operational in the New Covenant, Christ’s resurrection had to occur. Now you and I are not only born again but also empowered with gifts and abilities to transform areas that God is calling us to. Because of the Resurrection and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, our work can and will have a lasting impact.
