If you could define your life in musical terms, what would it sound like? I remember taking an Introduction to Music course in College that opened my understanding of music expressed in a variety of forms.  I learned that there are 5 basic, yet important elements in music.  These are rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and timbre. [1]

Of the 5 elements, rhythm is ranked as the most important.  Rhythm is essentially the movement of the music.  “Rhythm gives motion to melody and harmony”[2] Did you catch that?   So, what does rhythm have to do with the note of your life?

Well, as you know by now, helping people discover and ignite their purpose is the primary mission of The King’s Collective Network.  Purpose is like rhythm; it is the beat that determines the movement and trajectory of your life.  So, what sound are you making?

Discovering your purpose is only half the battle.  You also need a consistent rhythm to help you fulfill your purpose.  In other words, you need to be consistent in pursuing your purpose.  Make no mistake, challenges and you will be presented with opportunities that do not necessarily line up with your purpose. Therefore, you must be determined to stay the course on the pathway to your purpose.  In the musical notes of your life, ensure that there is a rhythm of consistency, discipline, and resilience.

Consistency

I like how the Apostle Paul encouraged the church at Corinth in the following way: “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Cor. 15:58, ESV).

He also encourages the church at Galatia: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Gal. 6:9, ESV).

Your life must carry a note of consistency to make an impact.  Hardship and challenges will come, but if the calling and the task are noble, then you must go all in.  Fulfilling your purpose is worth that much.

Discipline

Your life must also carry the beat of discipline.  Discipline involves practicing self-control using habits that setup you up for success.  Paul uses the analogy of the athlete in this regard: “Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable” (1 Cor. 9:25). Discipline creates boundaries and helps you to stay on course.

Resilience

The beat of resilience must also be part of your rhythm.  I like what the late Dr. Myles Monroe states in this regard:

“If you have made decisions that have interfered with God’s plan and purpose for your life, He has arranged a reformation program to redeem the detours. He uses the experiences to refine you as a purposeful part of the whole. Purpose transforms mistakes into miracles and disappointments into testimonies” [3]

So how is the note of your life?  Is there harmony between consistency, discipline, and resilience?
