What Ninety-Seven Percent of People Don’t Do That You Can Start Doing to Fulfill Your Purpose

I just finished producing the final lesson in seven a series lesson in the course entitled, Uncluttered
How to Discover Your Purpose through Your Life Story. In preparing the final lesson, I came across a quote by the late Zig Ziglar, a world-renowned motivational speaker. 

Ziglar states this about goals, “97 percent of the people in our society do not have a clearly defined, written-down set of goals for their lives.”[1] It is not enough you know what your purpose is. You must have clearly defined goals that help you to move forward in your purpose. 

So how can you be among the 3% that do set goals and follow through with accomplishing them?

Developing a Mission Statement

First things first, I recommend that you work to clarify your mission and articulate it in a mission/purpose statement.   Your mission statement is used to articulate:

  • Your Purpose
  • Why You Exist
  • The Impact of Your Contribution

Develop Goals Around Your Purpose Trifecta

The Purpose Trifecta consists of the following:

  1. Passions/Values/Interests
  2. Gifts/Abilities/Skills/Strengths
  3. Context/Zone of Impact/Mission/Proximity

It is will be more impactful if you develop goals around your purpose trifecta that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based ( S.M.A.R.T.) This way, you will hit your purpose bullseye every time!

Prioritize and Create an Action Plan Around Your Goals [2]

Goals are nothing without purposeful execution.  You must also create an action plan around your goals and execute them. 

Step 1: Define your end goal.

Step 2: List down the steps to be followed.

Step 3: Prioritize tasks and add deadlines.

Step 4: Set Milestones.

Step 5: Identify the resources needed.

Step 6: Visualize your action plan.

Step 7: Monitor, evaluate and update.
